In 1997, after detailed studies and research conducted in order to identify the most suitable region in Brazil for the large-scale production of organic honey, the Northeast region was chosen as headquarters for the Cearapi Project. In 1998 we began an intense certification process combined with efforts for capacitating the region’s beekeepers. Cearapi is located in the Cariri region, in the Southern part of Ceará, having been founded in 1998 near the Araripe National Forest ( FLONA ), covering an area of approximately 38,262 hectares of native forest, having been considered an area of permanent protection by the IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of the Environment), and famous for being Brazil’s first protected forest. From this area, Cearapi expanded  its activities to regions up to 1.000 Km of radius from its headquarters, regions that present the same characteristics of natural preservation. This is the scenery where our bees look for flowers that blossom all year long, free from any type of conventional agriculture, fertilizers, pesticides or fungicides.

Cearapi performs a very important social role regarding the local population surrounding its apiaries, because it ensures at the same time the preservation of native vegetation as well as a source of additional income for these communities.

Cearapi’s clean production process has been gaining attention by part of environmental programs for child education, in addition to helping other rural activities follow the same organic production system, which is non-polluting and sustainable at the same time.
